At the Hotel

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Sumba’s south-west coast, the five-star, eco-conscious Nihi resort awaits. With a golden-sand, 2.5km stretch of private beach on one side and an untouched tropical jungle on the other, the property promises a truly tranquil escape. Dotted around are 27 villas with private pools, a handful of restaurants, yoga pavilion, equestrian stables, spa facilities, organic gardens and even a chocolate factory. For guest experiences, Nihi excels in every way. By sea, visitors can enjoy surfing, snorkelling, kayaking and more; on land, hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and local village trips are just a few of the activities on offer. For relaxation, daily complimentary yoga sessions are available and spa treatments can be enjoyed at the Boathouse Spa. For a fully immersive experience, head for a stay at the Spa Safari: Nihioka. Guests can also learn more about Nihi’s sustainable approach and association with the Sumba Foundation, who support the local communities through a series of projects and initiatives.

Food & Drink

Nihi offers an all-inclusive dining approach, serving locally sourced ingredients from the resort’s own organic garden or neighbouring islands for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Private in-villa dining is available, as is destination dining and off-site meals for an additional charge. Ombak is the resort’s main restaurant and bar with a fresh selection of Indonesian and international cuisine. Nio Beach Club & Pool is open for lunch daily, serving up grilled fish, BBQ, salads and pizza beachside. The Boathouse is an idyllic spot to watch the sunset whilst enjoying a light snack, fresh coconuts, juices and cocktails. On the beachfront is Kaboku, the resort’s sushi bar specialising in Omakase (‘I’ll leave it you to’) style cuisine.

Rooms

There are 27 villas and 38 rooms in total at Nihi Sumba. Each villa varies slightly in size with one, two, three, four and five-bedroom layouts. All come with their own private pool, plush canopy beds, and sweeping ocean views with traditional antiques throughout. The largest estate, Mandaka, comprises five villas with the more expansive housing living rooms, fully-equipped kitchens, a library and more. Designed to resemble a typical Sumbanese village, the villas are traditional in architecture and showcase the best of locally sourced materials, with calming interiors adorned with local carvings, wood and Ikat prints.

Location

The island of Sumba is located approximately an hour’s flight from Bali. There are three direct flights arriving from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) to Tambolaka Airport (TMC) daily. Nihi can assist with flight arrangements as well as airport lounge access. Alternative routes include indirect flights via Kupang, Timor from Jakarta and Surabaya in Java. From there, Nihi Sumba is approximately an hour and a half drive through river valleys, traditional settlements and verdant forest. Private helicopters from Bali to Sumba Island and Sumba Airport to Nihi resort are also available, as well as private planes.
