At the Hotel
The inspiration for the architecture came from a desire to achieve timeless legitimacy in the region. Guests will enjoy exploring the individual rooms of the Main House, decorated with its eclectic artwork and treasures which have been collected by the owners during their travels; these captivating and fascinating pieces complement opulent interior design. Guest facilities are generous and include a gym, sauna, massage room, 25-metre heated swimming pool, library, lounge areas, both informal and formal dining areas, and an outdoor fire pit.
Food & Drink
Helena Bay has brought the celebrated Michelin-starred Ristorante Don Alfonso 1890 of Southern Italy to New Zealand. Under the direction and influence of Don Alfonso’s philosophy of respecting the local food culture while incorporating the age-old traditions of the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi Coast, fine dining defines the hospitality experience at Helena Bay.
Rooms
Helena Bay hosts a maximum of five individual couples in five villa suites. Aptly named after New Zealand native birds, the suites have extensive balconies with views overlooking Helena Bay beach and beyond to the South Pacific Ocean.
Location
The Poor Knights Islands, which have been shortlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage site, lie 20 kilometres off the coast. These islands feature the world’s largest sea cave and are populated by orca, dolphins and hundreds of fish species. Helena Bay Lodge is 40km north of Whangarei or a 45-minute flight by helicopter from Auckland.
