At the Hotel
Domaine Des Etangs underwent an expansive renovation in 2015, transforming the private residence into the luxury hotel it is today. Effortlessly blending the charm and spirit of a private home with five-star facilities, the estate comprises a fully-renovated medieval Chateau, a Longére, a Michelin-starred restaurant and art gallery. Guests, young and old, can enjoy a multitude of activities at Domaine; there are electric cars available to explore the surrounding area, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, horse riding, tennis court, fishing, yoga, a children’s playground and much more. The spa, Moulin des Etangs, is perfect for those wishing to relax and indulge. There’s also an onsite boutique selling Creations Dragon, a collection of unique items created by the property that includes items like homemade jams, handwoven mohair throws and vintage Cognac.
Food & Drink
A gastronomic destination in and of itself, the culinary experience offered at Domaine des Etangs is unparalleled. The main restaurant, Michelin-starred Dyades, is led by Head Chef Loic Lecoin and offers an ever-changing menu that, rather than reflecting the seasons, keeps in sync with nature’s daily-changing cycle. For private functions there’s Monade, a 22-person dining room in the Chateau that creates personalised menus on request. Dining can also be enjoyed at different areas across the property; this can include anything from wood-fired pizzas enjoyed in the comfort of your own cottage, takeaway picnic baskets to savour alongside the estate’s many ponds or lakes, to barbecues under the forest canopies. Regardless of setting, carefully selected, locally sourced ingredients remain at the heart of each culinary experience.
Rooms
In total there are 29 rooms and suites at the property. These include those in the Chateau, Longére, and six luxury farm cottages with one to five bedrooms. The Chateau houses seven of these large suites and bedrooms; each individually-designed by interior designer Isabelle Stanislas, guests can expect a mesmerising blend of the old and new. The Longére (a typical rural French property traditionally built in a rectangular shape) comprises four suites with expansive living areas and decor designed to emulate the seasons. The six Farmhouse cottages dot the property, the largest of which accommodates up to ten guests, and the smallest two. Spacious and intimate with countryside views, each cottage is a showcase of expert craftsmanship.
Location
Domaine des Etangs is located in France between the two historic areas of Cognac and Limoges; Cognac, a town which lends its name to the brandy variety, and Limoges, famed for its medieval historic center and decorated porcelain. Nearby places of interest include La Rouchefoucaul Castle and the rural Gallo-Roman thermal baths of Cassinomagus. The hotel offers a pick-up service from some train stations and airports. Airports include Bordeaux International Airport (170km), Limoges International Airport (54km), La Rochelle (2.5 hour drive) and Angouleme (43km for Private Jet). Trains are also available from Paris Montparnasse to Angouleme (2.5 hours).
