A must-visit city for many, the UK capital is forever offering up more space for new hotels. As the latter half of 2018 arrives we thought it timely to introduce a handful of London’s newest hotels and look ahead to those highly anticipated openings still to come. Whether you’re travelling from afar or in need of a staycation, one of these five properties is bound to fit the bill.
The Principal London, Bloomsbury
8 Russell Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1B 5BE

Open: April 2018
A re-opening rather than new, The Principal London opened its doors in April following a two-year renovation project led by Principal Hotel Company. Housed in a Grade II listed landmark building, the restoration saw a return to its former glory–a hotel steeped in history, glamour and indulgence. Today there are 334 rooms, a ball room for up to 450 guests, eight meeting and event spaces, and a concierge team to offer up local recommendations. There are even four food and beverage destinations (including an all-day seafood restaurant, cocktail bar, afternoon tea lounge and coffeehouse), so the hotel caters not just to fleeting guests but Londoners, too.
Kettner’s Townhouse Hotel
29 Romilly Street, Soho, London W1D 5HP

Open: January 2018
Another notch on the belt for hospitality vanguards Soho House Group, the new Kettner’s Townhouse Hotel opened in London’s Soho earlier this year. Located just minutes away from the groups’ Dean Street Townhouse, the hotel is set in one of the many historic Georgian houses dotting Romilly Street. The property dates back to 1867 when it was originally established by August Kettner (rumoured to be Napoleon III’s chef). It comprises a champagne bar and restaurant, which at one point had a short stint as a posh Pizza Express, that have since been restored with the addition of 33 guest rooms. The style is art deco meets English country house and room sizes range from tiny to the Jacobean Suite, which has its own entrance, separate living area, and bathroom with a freestanding copper bath. Kettner’s Townhouse Hotel is open to non-members.
Manhattan Loft Gardens
22 International Way, Olympic Park, London, E20 1GQ

Open: Late 2018
Led by property developer and HH Living Ceo, Harry Handelsman (the same man behind Chiltern Firehouse and the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel makeover), this 42-storey, £300 million apartment and hotel complex is scheduled to open its doors later this year. Alongside the stylish apartments, a boutique hotel will reside in the building’s lower seven floors and include a combination of food and beverage destinations, a 24-hour concierge, and sky garden.
Bankside Hotel
2 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1 9JU

Open: October 2018
Where art, history, theatre and cuisine collide, this new design hotel is perfect for visitors looking for an authentic experience in one of the city’s trendiest neighbourhoods. Part of the One Blackfriars mixed-use development, Bankside boasts a privileged position with Tate Modern, South Bank Centre, National Theatre, St Paul’s Cathedral and Borough Market right at its doorstep. The six-storey building will house 161 spacious guest rooms, ideal for solo travellers, couples and families; a handful of meeting and event spaces, and a convivial restaurant and bar with outdoor terrace. Danya Lee of Powerstrip Studios leads the interiors, combining a residential aesthetic with an eclectic touch.
Vintry and Mercer
19 – 20 Garlick Hill, London, EC4V 2AU

Open: Late 2018
Originally timed to open in spring, guests will now have to wait until late 2018 to make a reservation for this luxury hotel at the heart of the city. Taking its inspiration and name from the city’s historic trading guilds–Vintry, referring to the centre for London wine merchants; and Mercer, for noble textile sellers–the high-end property is a celebration of past and present, the old and new. A sister to the Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington, this anticipated outpost will feature 92 well-appointed rooms and suites, a fully-kitted fitness studio, multiple meeting rooms, an Asian tapas restaurant, and hidden underground bar.
